Hell hath no fury like a Long Island church scorned!
A Huntington house of worship tried to strike the fear of God into the sinner who stole its 275-gallon heating oil tank.
“To whomever stole our oil tank U R going to hell,” Joshua Baptist Cathedral declared on its illuminated sign outside prior to last weekend’s services.
The Rev. Stephanie Riddle Green noticed the tank was missing ahead of Sunday’s services when she went to turn on the heat because it was a little chilly in the church.
“I proceeded to raise the heat a bit to knock the chill off,” she wrote on Facebook Monday. “The boiler did not start and so I thought to myself I know we have oil but let me check the Oil tank just to make sure the oil had not been siphoned.”
But when she got outside, the six-month-old tank was missing.
“To just come and blatantly rob us, we were devastated,” she told NBC, adding that they had just replaced an old tank that was damaged by flooding.
Green said the church can’t afford to buy a new one, noting that they haven’t even paid for the missing tank, owing about $1,000 to a Ronkonkoma company — which said it did not seize it.
The church appears to have turned the other cheek, amending its sign to say it is now “praying” for the tank thief.
