The Pennsylvania Petroleum Association (PPA) has announced a multi-year partnership with Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC (METUS) at the newly constructed Technical Education Center (PPATEC) trade school located in Grantville, PA. The 12,000+ sq ft facility, which opened in July 2025, significantly expands hands-on technical training solutions for individuals employed in the HVAC and energy industry.

PPATEC also operates a postsecondary career training program licensed by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education and approved by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) to accept GI Bill benefits.  The 400-hour entry-level program is designed to provide an industry-specific training curriculum for the next generation of HVAC technicians entering the trade.

METUS has committed to being a founding sponsor of the Heat Pump Lab in the new PPATEC school. The lab has also received approval to operate as Mitsubishi Electric Authorized Training Center (MATC) to provide a localized option for contractors.

Lab C at the PPATEC Grantville trade school will be sponsored by METUS and feature company branding within space. The lab design will allow technicians to work on a wide range of METUS products including Single-zone systems, Multi-zone branch box systems, H2i plus Hyper-Heating INVERTER systems, A-coils, air handlers and mini-split troubleshooting simulator equipment. The two organizations will continue to pursue synergies into the next decade to maximize industry training offerings.

“Our association is fortunate to partner with an industry leader of ductless and ducted mini-split and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump and air-conditioning systems,” said Ted Harris, Executive VP at PPA.

“This technology is in demand by consumers, and it is crucial that our school has the training infrastructure in place to support the HVAC contractor community. Collaborating with METUS will translate to meaningful value for technicians and students who attend PPATEC.”

“Mitsubishi Electric maintains one of the most extensive HVAC training programs in the country”, said Tom McSorley, Senior Manager Business Development of the Mid Atlantic Business Unit for METUS.

“The collaboration with PPATEC will instantly add value to our contractor clients, distribution partners and the greater HVAC industry by offering hands-on training opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic market.”
