Heating fuel industry veteran Richard Salmonsen passes away

Heating fuel industry veteran Richard “Dick” Salmonsen passed away on Oct. 27 at the age of 91 in Danvers, MA.

Born on Feb.18, 1932, and raised in Worcester, MA, Salmonsen attended Bryant & Stratton College in Boston, where he received his associate degree in business. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before being honorably discharged.

Salmonsen then embarked on a long career in sales, predominantly in the petroleum industry. He began at Union Oil then moved on to Frontier Petroleum. As his career advanced, Salmonsen was VP of Sales at Global Petroleum for many years until he retired. A leader in the heating fuel industry, he served for many decades on the National Energy & Fuels Institute (NEFI) board, and was Master of Ceremonies for numerous industry events. 

“I am appreciative of his leadership in making the heating fuels industry better,” said NEFI President & CEO Sean Cota in a statement.

Salmonsen’s funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, in MA.
