The Fuel Merchants Association (FMA) of NJ reported the passing of Dave Bregenzer, owner of Valley Oil Co. in Hopewell, NJ on March 30, 2020. He was 87.
A Past President of FMA from 1997-1999, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn, his son, two daughters and grandchildren.
Bregenzer served in the Navy in the Korean War. He worked for many years for Nassau Oil Company in Princeton before founding Valley Oil Company in Hopewell with fellow Nassau employee Donald Terhune in 1970. They were later joined by Ray Whitlock in the business. A few years ago Bregenzer became the sole owner of Valley Oil and continued to work. He was a former member of the Hopewell Fire Department and past commander of Hopewell Valley American Legion Post 339.
In light of the Coronavirus epidemic, burial at Highland Cemetery was private attended by immediate family, with a fleet of Valley Oil trucks and employees in the background. A celebration of life event will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Dave’s name to a charity of choice is suggested. For more information, visit https://obits.nj.com/obituaries/trenton/obituary.aspx?n=david-n-bregenzer&pid=195876193.
