On Sept. 23, AmeriGas sold its heating oil business on Martha’s Vineyard to Island Energy, Vineyard Haven, MA in a bid to re-focus on its propane business. Terms of the deal were not revealed.
In a letter to customers, AmeriGas in Edgartown, MA said, “This allows AmeriGas to stay focused on its strength in propane and helps you continue to receive dedicated service for your heating oil needs by Island Energy, Martha’s Vineyard’s only full-service heating oil company.”
AmeriGas assured heating oil customers that Island Energy received customer account information and would be making the transition as seamless as possible. Island Energy would be in contact with customers via e-mail as soon as possible, the letter said.
AmeriGas noted it would continue to service its propane customers on the island. The letter also mentioned new locations for both businesses. AmeriGas is now at 6 North Line Road at the MV Airport Business District. Island Energy will be relocating across the street to 7 North Line Road.
“We are confident in this decision because we know that Island Energy’s business philosophy is very similar to AmeriGas; we both believe strongly in simplifying your energy and service needs and are committed to customer service and advanced technology to make it easy for you to do business with us, the letter said,” the letter said, which was signed by David Eeley, Area Manager, AmeriGas, and Jay McMann, President, Island Energy.
