The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) has released an updated version of its Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG). Issued every four years, the guidebook is required for use by commercial driver’s license (CDL) drivers hauling hazardous materials. ERG 2020 replaces ERG 2016 and is available to purchase at https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/news/usdot-announces-updated-hazmat-emergency-guidebook or free via mobile download.
Under federal regulations (49 CFR 172.602), a printed copy of the most recent version of the ERG booklet or a printed copy of information contained in Guide No. 128 for flammables and combustibles must be kept onboard at all times. ERG 2020 edition adds new language to Guide No. 128.
